Radon
Radon inspection with proposed measures — measurement, consultation, remediation and follow-up.
What radon is
The only way to detect radon is to measure it
Radon is a radioactive gas formed naturally in the bedrock when radium decays. Long-term exposure to radon increases the risk of lung cancer. The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority estimates that radon in homes causes around 500 cases of lung cancer a year in Sweden, mostly among smokers.
Radon can enter buildings from the ground, from building materials or from household water. It is the radiation source that gives the public its highest exposure to ionising radiation.
Radon levels should be measured for at least two months, between 1 October and 30 April.
Reducing radon levels
Radon levels in a house can be reduced. The right measures depend on where the radon comes from. Sometimes improving the existing ventilation, or sealing cracks in floors and around pipe penetrations, is enough.
Radon is measured with instruments, track-etch detectors or water samples. We at Skrået carry out measurement, consultation and remediation. You receive a proposed solution with a price, and we follow up afterwards to check that it has worked.
